🎉🏠On Monday I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening for the Santa Angelina senior housing project. The new community development will provide 65 affordable apartment homes to seniors aged 62 or older who earn less than 60% of the area median income. Twenty- one apartment homes will be reserved as permanent supportive housing for unhoused seniors or seniors at-risk of becoming unhoused.
The project built by the nonprofit National CORE, is located at the Episcopal Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Placentia. Through the passing of SB4 last year, Affordable Housing on Faith Lands Act, it allows churches throughout California the ability to use their excess property for affordable housing development.
Thank you to National CORE for creating a new beautiful housing community for our seniors, the Blessed Sacrament Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles for allowing the use of church property for the project and the Hope Housing Foundation for proving the onsite direct supportive services that will be used.

Yesterday, we held a press conference announcing the approval by the CalOptima Health Board of Directors of a 5 million dollar grant over five years for Cal State Fullerton’s nursing programs. The grant will be used to increase the number of Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students in the Jump Start, Concurrent Enrollment and BSN programs.
The university plans to award $10,000 stipends to 50 nursing students each year to complete their BSN, a total of 250 students across the five-year program.
As Supervisor for Cal State Fullerton and CalOptima Health Director, I have been working closely with both organizations to help fill the gap to train skilled, diverse and compassionate nurses. This grant will help students to obtain their BSN while increasing the number of students able to enter into the CSUF nursing program.
I want to thank CalOptima Health and Cal State Fullerton for their work on this important initiative. With this grant and others we can help expand our healthcare network and support the next generation of healthcare professionals.

CalOptima Health is hosting a press conference tomorrow, Wednesday, May 15, at 10 a.m. in collaboration with California State University, Fullerton and O.C. Supervisor Doug Chaffee to announce a $5 million Provider Workforce Development Grant from CalOptima Health to support the CSUF nursing program.
In this first phase of the Provider Workforce Development Initiative, Cal State Fullerton and six other institutions received a combined total of $25 million. The grants will support the development and education of future nurses and caregivers to ease predicted shortages and gaps in the Orange County health care workforce that serves the Medi-Cal population.
